I am here, back to reality, well just!

Need to get myself going and get back to some normality but very slowly.

For those of you who maybe didnt know where I had disappeared to, I went to Russia on a work trip and came back seriously ill with an unknown disease. It is now confirmed that it is/was bilateral pneumonia caused by a viral infection

I feel that I have lost part of my life at the moment, that days passed by and I havent done anything for ages, now I have a list as long as my arm of things that need doing, but no energy or will power to do them.

Doctor says I must take it easy and slowly but I am a person who always needs to be doing something so thats gonna be hard!

What was the Dutch Hospital like?

In stark contrast to many other European systems, healthcare cover is  based entirely on private insurers, rather than a single or entirely national system. The system is fairly simple, everyone is obliged to purchase insurance from  private providers.  Everyone has to have by law the basic insurance package and then you can add supplements to it based on whatever you like, we have extra dental care and glasses. Funky Monkey gets free coverage under our insurance until she is 18. See more here at Expat focus

So everything was covered except for the 2 euro a day television that kept me more or less sane (actually I quite miss being able to watch whatever I like all day!)

The early days in hospital are a bit of a blur, I remember Dutchie taking off my wedding ring and charm bracelet he gave me, and I panicking because they hardly ever come off. I also remember laying in the ambulance with a very good looking ambulance man thinking I must look like a right mess, maybe I wasnt so Ill after all!

The hospital accommodation in the Netherlands is in shared rooms or wards of up to six patients, (I was lucky and was in a 2 person room) and maybe mixed-gender. ( I shared with an 83 year old man! who I couldn't understand, due to his very Brabants accent) It was all very clean, very well run and very well staffed.  The experience although I was very ill was very good, having spent so much time in and out of hospital in Spain before the birth of Funky Monkey (maybe another post one day or a story for another blog) I was interested to compare the two, Dutch hospitals are definitely cleaner and more modern and having a tv helped too!

All I now hope is to get back to normal soon and wonder if the doctorsmay have  googled me too!
